    Abstract

    Electrical energy is one of energy that has the role in all sectors so that the availability of power required by large amount as well as sustainable. PLTU Paiton Unit 7 and 8 is one of the private power company that attempts to meet the high demand for sustainable electric power in Indonesia. This power plant capable of providing electric power with capacity 615 MW (NET) of each or the total capacity reached 1230 MW. Gas Insulated Switchgear(GIS) is one important part of the generation system in PLTU Paiton Unit 7 and 8 which serves as a connection between the generation and PLN transmission system. Gas Insulated Switchgear is a system connection and breaker electrical network packaged in a non-ferrous tube and using materials sulphurhexaflouride gas(SF6) as an insulating medium. SF6 gas has electronegative property that has the function to inhibit the arc that may occur when operating switchgear. GIS consists of 500 kV switchgear equipment having specific functions and specifications and are not allowed in wrong operation. This final project study the interlocking system at 500 kV GIS, a safety system that works based on the sequence and coordination of 500 kV switchgear equipment. From this final project is known that the interlocking system at 500 kV GIS was made in order to avoid possible errors operation of switchgear equipment that may cause danger to plant operators and even cause a disruption in the power system.
